Best Auto Flowering Cannabis Seeds

Auto-Flowering Cannabis Seeds

Top 10 Best Autoflowering Seeds

Maybe you’ve written off auto-flowering seeds because you’ve heard that their yields are low, their phenotypes erratic and their highs less potent than those of their light-dependent sisters. Perhaps that was once true, but many breeders have been hard at work and they have produced what may sound like a miracle: high yielding, hard hitting, reliable auto-flowering seeds. It is time to give autos another chance. We have the current, 2018 Top Ten Auto-Flowering Seeds to help point you in the right direction, but first let’s review a little…

What are auto-flowering cannabis seeds?

Auto-flowering seeds are not light dependent for flowering. They germinate, shoot up a few leaves and start setting flowers, without you fussing over their light schedules.

Huh. That’s weird. How did that come about?

All auto-flowering seeds are the result of crossing our well-known and much loved Sativa and Indica plants with the somewhat less popular Ruderalis strains. Ruderalis is a type of cannabis that evolved to thrive in the 18-24 hour daylight of summers in Northern Russia and the Northern parts of Eastern Europe. There the summer days are long, sometimes endless, and by the time they start to shorten it is far too cold for a plant to be making flowers.

Ruderalis Wild

As you probably know our normal and familiar cannabis plants require a switch from 24 hours of light to 12 in order to stimulate flowering, without which they just veg and veg. If wild Ruderalis followed this example, all its flowers would freeze before setting seed. So it switched to a time schedule, instead of a light schedule, producing flowers as early as 3 weeks after germinating.

What that means for you in the grow room:

  • Faster flowering=shorter wait for the harvest
  • No need for separate vegging and flowering rooms
  • Plants of different ages can all be grown together, leading to:
  • A CONSTANT supply of marijuana

So why have I heard that they aren’t all that great?

The flaws in auto-flowering seeds come from their roadside origins. The reason you haven’t smoked any pure Ruderalis is simple – it is the ditchiest of ditch weed. Hardy, compact, resilient and frankly, boring. The THC content of Ruderalis strains tends to be low, as are the yields and the highs are weak and lack the psychedelic effects so many of us seek. These traits showed in the early autos- they were weaker than their sister strains and their yields were lower. The ease and speed of growing simply didn’t make up for their lack of oomph, or compensate for the small harvests.

But… Breeders are pretty good at what they do.

Auto-flowering seeds have been around for awhile now, and the breeders have gotten savvy. With intensive breeding, they are now whipping out auto seeds that produce anywhere from 500-1000g/m2 and will put you on the couch for hours.

How to grow your auto seeds:

Auto-flowering plants tend to be small (though there are exceptions, check out Lemon Haze Auto below) and do well in high density grow systems like Sea of Green. They can also thrive in containers, but don’t like to be transplanted. Germinate them in their final pots (1-2 gallons works great).

SOG Auto

One of the great advantages of auto seeds is the possibility of staggering your planting for a continuous crop in the same space. Each time you harvest a bud or remove a male (they tend to show 2-3 weeks after germinating) plant a new seed. No need to change the light; most autos do best on 18 hours of light a day from germ to harvest.

For the biggest yields, you do have to pay attention to feeding. It is important to switch from veg stage nutrients to flowering nutrients at about 4 weeks after germination or as soon as you see flowers starting to form.

Most autos perform beautifully outside, often giving higher yields than their indoor counterparts. The Ruderalis genetics lend these strains a degree of hardiness; they are often mold resistant and able to handle fluctuating temperatures and odd watering schedules better than their pure Indica and Sativa relatives.

So you’re ready to give autos a try?

You really should. The intense breeding programs of the last few years have produced some really remarkable strains. These are autos that you would think were purely Indica/Sativa, if it weren’t for the fact that they grow FASTER and EASIER than any light dependent seeds you’ve tried.

To sum up the auto-flowering seeds…

Auto-flowering cannabis has finally made the transition from great idea to great reality. It took a long time. The first auto seeds, the original Lowryder by The Joint Doctor, came out around 2003. We are twelve years and hundreds of plant generations in to auto breeding, and we are finally seeing the plants of our dreams. Thanks to the tough, adaptable genetics of the wild Ruderalis, growers everywhere can now have the pleasure of growing fast, heavy yielding, sweet smoking cannabis without the hassle of having two grow rooms. So ditch the light schedules and give our favorite auto-flowering seeds a try:

It is the best of its parent strains- fruity aroma from the Joint Doctor’s Lowryder #2 coupled with the growth, high resin production and pleasant, motivating cerebral high of the Vision-AK47. 2. Peruvian Beginer says:

Can someone give me a good seed bank or website to buy for the first time that is actually has a good reputation and does not scam? and how far away do the lights have to be from the autoflowers at all time?, thank you.
Oh yeah, I have a tour agency in Cusco where Machu Picchu is located, if anyone comes, I will have not just good tours to offer but good weed too hahaha, contact me for any information, but please can someone answer to my questions please.

    • In my experience it is always a good Idea to have a look who’s been winning the Cannabis Cup over the many years people have been doing this like a science. I personally use Positronics though you could try The Sensi Seed Bank, both previous Cup winners with many more to choose from.
As far as the distance of the lights, it depends on their wattage, but a general rule of thumb is to put your hand under it and feel when the heat gets close to your own body temperature and that for a 600w Sodium would be between 12″ and 18″ / 300mm and 450mm.

  3. clarkie boy says:

Problem is there are sighns of budding already there are lots of little white hairs!!!!! Is this a problem or is this normal??? Will they be ready sooner than expected?? Maybe just less?? Please help

  4. Tiff says:

  5. TAW says:

will i get better yield with 24hours under a T5 or 12/12 under 1000watt HPS, with a sugar mango auto?

    • br4nd0n says:

Hps i think is the best u should keep the light on for 18 hrs maybe 16 to save money anything below that will stunt growth t5 isnt good for flowering phaze

      • b says:

hey i was woundering i have a berry ryder iv been growing for 4 weeks now on 24/0 sense they come up it been budding for about a week or so should i switch the lights to 12/12 and let it finish i run 450 cfl

  6. Gareth says:

MH is best but HPS will do. I’ve used HPS from start to finish with good results.

    • br4nd0n says:

Hps i think is the best u should keep the light on for 18 hrs maybe 16 to save money anything below that will stunt growth t5 isnt good for flowering phaze

  7. mr.420 says:

wait are u guys serious? u can actually get so many seeds from one single plant?
im thinking about ordering from seedsman bought 10 seeds , dont know which strain yet, but since im really new to this , i’m thinking to plant all 10 seeds in a not too big closet of mine, and if any male show up i just let them pollinate the females.
i have a Hps 250 watt lamp, i might get another one if recommended by any one. when u guys say up to hundreds of seeds per plant, are u being serious whit that shit? it’s just that i was really thinking about 50 seeds per plant or something like that…

    • CannaBus says:

HA Ha,I was going to post but michaelnock88 nailed it. That’s not to say there won’t come a time when you’ll want to pollinate a budd.

    • Darold says:

Hey, good to find soomnee who agrees with me. GMTA.

      • How much square ft do you have?
With a 250w you will get good growth from around 2-3 square ft.
        A 400w around 3-4 square ft.
        A 600w around 4-5.
I have used 3 600w sodium over a growing space of 2.5 meters square to a very good results. There are better ways by using those light movers which move the light down a rail attached to the ceiling.
As far as trying to make your own seeds, this is something that makes little sense to me for varying reasons.
Firstly it comes down to, do you really want 100s of seeds?
Secondly the THC starts to degrade at a certain point, you can tell by looking at the crystals under at least a 20x zoom microscope. They will go from being clear crystal balls into cloudy balls.
Thirdly for some reason the seeds that you get from home grown seeds, seems to be either sub standard or prone to things like hermapharidites or mutated leaf structure and things like that.
So unless you don’t mind weed with seeds in every individual bud and then spend months growing substandard plants that could flower themselves, go for it.
If it was me I’d find a good supplier and grow what you like to smoke.

  8. Ben says:

Do you have to use MH for the first few weeks? Or can you use HPS from the beginning?

  9. Mousy says:

I have two auto white widows in the closet under 400watt hps my plants sprouted 7 weeks ago. They started flowering in the 4th week and im still not done with flowering. Im growing them under dwc and they are really fat and have tons of branches. Is it normal for autos to take this long?

  10. Pot Head says:

They create flowers just like other cannabis plants. The reason they flower automatically is because they come from northern lattitudes where summers are short with incredibly long days. These strains are adapted to these conditions where plants need to flower and spread seed quickly before the return of winter.
